Conference venue
SST2024 will be held at University College, the University of Melbourne, in the heart of Melbourne, Victoria. The conference will be delivered as an in-person event.
University College, founded in 1937, is a residential college immediately next to the Parkville campus of the University of Melbourne, which also has state-of-the-art conference facilities. University College is located on College Crescent, across the road from the University of Melbourne’s main campus (see here for a map), and is close to several tram lines. Car parking is limited and subject to availability.
The conference talks will take place in the Seminar Centre, Leggatt Hall, Leitch Academic Centre and Library (see here for more information), which are all fully accessible. Catering will be provided on-site.
Limited accommodation for conference delegates will also be available in the college – more details on this to follow.
Melbourne weather
December marks the start of summer in Melbourne. The city warms up, with average daytime highs of 24°C which occasionally soar into the low 30s°C. People can enjoy extended daylight and plenty of sunshine in the city. However, nights can cool down to around 12°C, and the weather is often unpredictable, with the possibility of experiencing four seasons in one day. We recommend coming prepared for both warm days and cool nights, as well as for abundant sunshine and sudden rains, so that you can fully enjoy Melbourne’s dynamic climate.
Local cafes, restaurants, and sightseeing
The Parkville campus of University of Melbourne has many cafes and eateries. The surrounding areas also include various dining options (check the famous Lygon Street), along with beautiful Victorian architecture, leafy parks like the Carlton Gardens, cultural landmarks such as the Royal Exhibition Building and the Melbourne Museum. Just a stone’s throw away, there are plenty of galleries, vintage shops, artist markets, trendy bars, and live music venues that can be explored. The campus is also close to the very vibrant Melbourne CBD. For some pointers, see this map of Melbourne for SST attendees.
