SST Conferences

The first SST conference was held in Canberra, ACT in 1986. The growth in attendances and in international content between 1986 and 1994 is an indication of the international stature of this series. The 1996 conference saw a slow down in this growth trend and the 1998 conference was overshadowed, in a very positive manner, by the presence of the 956 delegate 5th International Conference on Spoken Language Processing. The value of the smaller conference for the nurture of our science in Australia is undisputed and the series was re-established by a very successful conference in Canberra, 2000.
