Samouelian, Denis Burnham, Steve Cassidy and Spike Barlow, all of whom have served on the executive since those early days. I think that it is also significant that the spirit in which that vision has been supported and developed has been extremely positive in terms of relationships between us. I recently had cause to consult with the two ex-presidents of ASSTA on a matter and the prompt, careful and thoughtful responses that I received just underlined this broad sense of professional community that has characterised our history. May it also characterise our future. I confided in the current executive a few weeks ago that I felt that any one of them could pick up the role that I am laying down. We all have our weaknesses and strengths, so we would all do the job differently, but with the kind of flexible support from fellow-members and ex-members of the executive that we have experienced, the leadership that the association needs is guaranteed. The fact that we have an election for president is great! Note that whoever is not elected is also willing to serve having nominated for executive member also. That fact exemplifies the spirit of commitment to the association that impresses me strongly and gives me great confidence in its future. I just hope that I can be as good an ex-president as my two predecessors!
