features were back: the dual keynote speakers, one from the technology side and one from the science side; a low-cost venue on a university campus; and a memorable conference dinner with the traditional "spectrogram reading" competition. To this were added: the option for full-paper review, in line with current university funding requirements; a fully electronic paper submission and a review process which was admired by many; and an additional plenary session to explore how we as a community operate across our internal boundaries and in relation to available funding in the local context.
I encourage all our members to take up the opportunities offered by the newsletter to interact both with each other and with the executive in the public arena of this medium so that we may all contribute to developments in our multiple disciplines and in their intersection with our association.  �
