New Researcher Award Interspeech 2026: Guidelines
GENERAL
1. The New Researcher Award Interspeech 2026 is intended to foster high quality new researchers in speech science and technology.
2. The award is offered to applicants who have their paper accepted to the Interspeech 2026 conference.
APPLICANTS
3. Eligibility criteria:
a) The applicant must be a Student member of ASSTA or an Ordinary member of ASSTA no more than two years beyond their highest degree and must be financial with their membership fees for at least 6 months at the time of application.
b) The applicant must be conducting research in Australia or New Zealand.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
4. The application is to be submitted online by 22 June 2026, together with the following documents:
a) a signed supervisor declaration form
b) a submitted paper
c) proof of paper acceptance
d) *proof of PhD completion stating the conferral date (e.g. a PhD Certificate, a letter of conferral).
* Note: this document is required for ECR applicants who have completed their PhD. Applicants who are PhD candidates at the time of the application are required to submit documents a-c only.
5. Applicants may submit more than one paper. Each paper should be submitted online as a separate application and will be considered independently of the others as a separate entry. However, no applicant may win more than one award.
6. Applicants should be either sole or first author of the paper. In the latter case, the majority of the paper is to be the work of the applicant.
ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
7. The applications will be assessed by the panel appointed by the ASSTA executive.
8. The final decision to accept the application (as a valid application for the ASSTA New Researcher Award Interspeech 2026) rests with the assessment panel.
9. All applicants will be notified of the panel's decisions by the ASSTA executive as early as possible but at the latest two weeks before the due date for the early bird registration deadline (15 July 2026).
THE AWARD
10. Up to six awards may be made. However, the assessment panel may recommend that no awards be made if it feels no applications of sufficiently high quality have been submitted.
11. Applicants will be eligible for other awards available in the same calendar year. No awards will be set aside for student only applicants or for particular research areas.
12. The award will consist of:
a) AU$750 grant
b) Free conference banquet
c) A certificate to be presented at the Interspeech 2026 conference banquet
d) Mention on the ASSTA website.
13. All decisions made by the assessment panel are final and no correspondence about those decisions will be entered into.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Upload the signed form along with your submitted paper, proof of acceptance, and, where applicable, proof of PhD completion with the conferral date (e.g. a PhD Certificate, a letter of conferral) when submitting your online application.
